College Football

As much as I love NFL football, especially the Vikings, I have to admit, my favorite thing to watch is college football. My team is the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Why do I love college football so much? Maybe because every game matters. Losing one game could ruin your season. It is a sport for underdogs. There's nothing better than seeing an underdog pull off an upset and win against the opposing, heavily favored team. That is as long as the Hawkeyes aren't the favorites.

Over the past few years, college football has taken some criticism for their postseason. A lot of people feel their should be playoffs in college football. The top twelve teams face of against each other and see who comes out victorious. Others want to keep it the way it is with the current BCS bowl system. Both have its pros and cons. Playoffs could end a long tradition of bowls in college football and some complain that the atmosphere wouldn't be as intense. Then again, the non-BCS conference teams would have a chance to win a national championship. In the BCS system teams like Boise State never are going to make the national championship because they play in a weak conference. Now don't get me started on Boise State as I feel they should move to a harder conference to see what they're really made of. Then again the BCS is a great experience. Every team in the Big Ten conference looks forward to having a chance to play in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California against another great team. And they usually can only get there if they win the Big Ten conference. What exciting seasons this causes in not just the Big Ten, but in all of college football.

I do know one thing, though. No atmosphere is better than at a college football stadium. At places like the Horseshoe, Happy Valley, the Rose Bowl, and the Swamp the crowd is electric. A stadium who can hold its own in crowd noise is Kinnick Stadium, the Hawkeyes home field. Those fans can get loud. Especially when the home team is talented like they are this year. There's nothing better than going to a Hawk game and watching my favorite team duke it out with any other team in college football.

There is, without a doubt, nothing greater in sports than college football.
